Which team will get the best photos of a Super Bowl LI?
A couple of years ago, I had a chance to sit down with the executive producer of the ESPN show “Outside the Lines,” and I had one of my favorite moments of my life.
In the late ’90s, I was a rookie on the Miami Dolphins, and I’d gotten to know our production assistant, Melina, who had a thing for the Patriots.
We were in New England on Sunday afternoon, and she’d given me some of her photos from the Super Bowl.
I’ve always loved to be able to get pictures of things I don’t usually see, but it was something special to finally get them.
So when I went back to the Dolphins that Sunday night, I didn’t know if I was going to be taking a photo or not, but I knew it was going on my Instagram feed.
Melina is a former Patriots intern, and this photo, taken in New Jersey, is one of her favorites.
She had to be the most professional person in the world, because I was taking this photo.
Melinas mother is from New York.
It’s not like we’re friends.
She was like, “What are you doing?”
I was like “Oh, I’m just going to snap a picture.”
I told her, “This is something I’m doing, because it’s something that I want to share with you.
I want you to know that I’m a big Patriots fan.
I know that we’re good friends, and we always go to New England.”
I’m also from the Midwest, so I was excited to see her photos.
I asked her, “[Do you think] we’re going to get a lot of people talking about us?”
She looked at me like, [Laughs] “Oh no, we’re just going around like nothing happened.”
It’s been like that since the day she got here, but she knows that she’s been amazing.
She told me she’s always wanted to be a professional photographer, and now she knows she has a chance.
It was like a magical moment.
